Solid medal is silver plate with enamel. Original ribbon is on brass suspension. Medal has been worn but is in excellent condition. The box is in fine condition with a few small scuffs on backside. Award was issued December 13, 1950 – April 5, 1991 and awarded to Bulgarian and foreign citizens and organizations for merit in sciences, culture, education. Designed by P. Doychinov and O. Odabashja, there are two variations of this award, the first edition which is numbered; later issues (2nd emission) were not numbered. The one for sale is likely from the early 1950s. The medal is worn on the left chest and it’s round with red, blue or white enamel background. It shows the image of the Saints in relief. On the left side, Cyril, who holds a scroll with the first four letters of the Cyrillic alphabet in the hands. Slightly offset to the right behind Methodius with a Bible under his arm. One five-pointed star is seen on the top of the medal, hanging from a light-blue ribbon.
